A goal by David Fuster on 71 minutes sealed the victory over Rubin Kazan and Olympiacos now have a 1-0 lead going into the UEFA Europa League round of 32 return leg, which will take place on Thursday, February 23 at the "G. Karaiskakis" stadium. On 73 minutes keeper Roy Caroll came on and pulling off an amazing penalty save, practically became the man of the match. This was Caroll's very first game with Olympiacos...

At "Luzhniki" stadium, Moscow, Olympiacos came in strong and had a high performance throughout the match, although players from both sides were very much affected by the cold temperatures that reached -15 celsius. 

While everything was somewhat quiet, suddenly, in the second half, Jean II Makoun took a shot that struck the bar on 70 minutes, David Fuster netted the opener for Olympiacos on 71 minutes, Balazs Megyeri fouled Karadeniz, saw a red card, was sent off and Rubin Kazan was granted a penalty on 73 minutes. All these consecutive events shook things up a bit and it was Roy Caroll who after being called on as a substitute and deflecting Natcho's penalty shot calmed things down again.
