The comments of our players

Here are the comments of Olympiacos FC’s players after the game against Arsenal, in the frame of the 2011/2012 UEFA Champions League MD 6.

Vassilis Torossidis

“It is a weird feeling; a great victory for our team and a qualification that never came. We must keep going because this is football. I honestly fail at words.

In the halftime, I had seen Dortmund’s 2-0 and I never imagined that Marseille were capable of turning the game around. What looks a bit strange to me is that despite the delay in our second half, when our match was way over they were still playing.

It’s strange, given that UEFA are very strict on matters like this. I am not trying to incline anything I just feel that there was a really big delay and I can’t understand why. It’s a game I really don’t want to see. The two goals that Dortmund concedes are ridiculous.

Our team and our fans did what we had to do. Now we should focus on the championship and, naturally, the Europa League and move on.”

Rafik Djebbour

“We did our best and despite our victory we didn’t manage to qualify. We deserved to continue in the competition as we gave it all we had in us.

The truth is that we had a very bad start, against Marseille on the premiere, and that’s what we are now paying. The Champions League is a competition that does not forgive and when you don’t do well in every match that’s what happens in the end.

We will now do our best again in the Europa League, hope for a good campaign and try to be a worthy representative of Hellenic Football.”

Olof Mellberg

“We are disappointed not by our own result but by the way things turned out tonight. Now we must concentrate on the SuperLeague where we have some tough games ahead and deal with the Europa League later on.

The first match against Marseille, were we had a poor performance, is what we are now paying. We were very unlucky against Arsenal and Dortmund in our two away games and we also did very well at home.”

Yiannis Maniatis

“Our first match against Marseille was a very difficult one for us. We had no other official games prior to it and the domestic league is to be blamed for that.

I would like to congratulate Dortmund for ranking fourth. This is the spot they deserved all along. I always try to do my best and help my teammates out.

We must remain calm and down to earth and I think we can do even better in the future.”
