Christian Karembeu

Christian Karembeu was born in New Caledonia on December 3 1970. He is a former international French player with an impressive career, while in the past he has played for 3 years for Olympiacos.

Karembeu started his football career in Nantes back in 1990. Before coming to Greece to join Olympiacos, he had capped for Sampdoria, Real Madrid and Middlesbrough. Following his successful years in Olympiacos, he played for Servette and finally retired in 2006, featuring with Bastia’s jersey for his last match.

As a football player, Karembeu had earned major titles; the French Ligue title with Nantes, 2 Champions League titles with Real Madrid and an Intercontinental Cup. During his time in Olympiacos, great Christian Karembeu won 2 Greek Championship (2002 and 2003). A major achievent of his has been the World Cup title of 1998 with the French National Team. Two years later, Christian Karembeu also celebrated the European Championship title with his country’s National Team. 2001 he won the Confederation Cup with France. He has been twice decorated as “Best Player of the Year” for the region of Oceania (1995 and 1998).

After the end of his football career, Christian Karembeu was involved in scouting for Premier League clubs, amongst others, such as Portsmouth and Arsenal. His ties with Olympiacos never faded when he left the side back in 2004, since he participated in the “Match against Poverty”, played at “G. Karaiskakis” stadium in the 2010-11 campaign and organized by our club and the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo. His active commitment was far from over, since he is a member of the Monaco-based “Champions for Peace”.
