Michel
Head Coach
José Miguel Gonzalez Martín del Campo, widely known as Míchel, was born in Madrid on 23 March 1963. As a footballer he was a legend and captain of Real Madrid, participating in over 500 games, having won six Championships, two Spanish Cups, as well as two consecutive UEFA Cups, among others. From 1985 to 1994 he participated in 31 games in the Spanish first League. He represented the Spanish national team 67 times and participated in two World Cups (1986–1990) and one European Cup (1988). In the 1990 tournament, he even scored a hat trick against South Korea.
In February 2013 he took over as football manager of Olympiacos and for a “golden” two-year period, during which he recorded 65 victories, 11 draws and 15 defeats in 91 games, he led the “red-and-whites” to two championships (2012–2013, 2013–2014) and one cup (2012–2013), as well as some of their greatest victories in Europe against opponents such as Atlético Madrid (3–2), Juventus (1–0), Benfica (1–0) and Anderlecht (0–3). Under his guidance, Olympiacos came very close to a great qualification for the 8 teams of the Champions League against Manchester United, but succeeded only in winning 2–0 in the first game at “G. Karaiskakis.”
He began his coaching career in Rayo Vallecano in 2005 and returned to Real Madrid, where he had triumphed as a footballer, a year later, becoming the youth squad’s director and coach of Castilla. In the past, he took Getafe at the La Liga level twice, while also guiding Seville and Málaga, again at first-class level. Besides Spain, he worked in France on behalf of Marseille, but also in Mexico where he took over the fortunes of Pumas. Seven and a half years later, the Spanish coach returned and took the reins of the greatest team in Greece, Olympiacos.
