Míchel’s press conference following the match Olympiacos–Qarabağ

Coach Míchel’s press conference.

The coach of Olympiacos, Míchel, spoke after the match against Qarabağ and the 3–0 defeat of the “red-and-whites”, for the 3rd round of UEFA Europa League group stages.

The press conference of the Spanish coach of Olympiacos in detail:

About what went wrong and Olympiacos lost:

“We had planned a game based on tactics and we stood well until the 70th. After that point we made mistakes, and when you make such mistakes, you pay for them. It’s not just about mistakes in defence. I think that the team stood quite well in general. We got off to a bad start, but we recovered and took control again. We had momentum and created opportunities, being in control.

But during the opponent’s offense, our team made a mistake and that was dispriting. We weren’t able to recover in the next minutes. No one could have guessed that the result would be so high, until that moment. For the first 60 minutes the team of Olympiacos was willing and able. Following that, several individual mistakes occurred.”

Whether the image in the finale of the race leads him to a deciding to thin the roster:

“I agree with your analysis, but no one can leave now. Emotional control is gone. No one can justify this result on the basis of the overall picture. As we said, all this uncertainty and insecurity that the team seemed to feel after the first goal, has to do with a lack of self-confidence and not so much with football as such, as we have shown since the beginning of the year.

I don’t want to use that as an excuse. These are the circumstances I agreed to, but we would love to have four players who are not on the list at the moment. We have to get used to playing without them.”

In conclusion, the coach of Olympiacos said:

“I want to tell you that we have a lot of work ahead of us and, secondly, the way we played today leading to the 3–0 defeat is an unpleasant surprise. I can’t get it into my head that this team played as they did today; I can see us losing with that score. As for Cissé’s gesture on the field, I didn’t see it, but I was told later.

When a player makes mistakes on the grass, you accept them. When they express their opinion outside the field, it’s unnecessary. This is not the time to be having problems with each other. It’s unnecessary, because people have nothing to do with it. On the contrary, he is here and he loves us.”
