Fetfatzidis’ magnificent effort during the match against Atromitos at Peristeri, lifting the ball over the opponent keeper’s head, was voted among other five nominations as the best one in this season’s championship.
After receiving his award, the young player stated the following:
“It is a challenge to mark such goals, though I personally do not think of this as something particularly important. All football players want to score such difficult and beautiful goals, but what really matters in the end is for our team to claim victory.
My original thought was to pass Zuela from the left but he stopped, forcing me to stop as well. From that point on, I had only one choice; to lift the ball over Velimir Radman, who was coming towards me. So I did.
I had seen, of course, Giovanni’s beautiful goal against Galatasaray, it was magnificent! Surely it had crossed my mind to try and score such a goal one day. The right chance came along in this particular match and so I gave it a shot. Why shouldn’t I have?
The truth is that such events, like the one NOVA organized tonight, are great. It is very good for all the players, who always want to play at 100%, to be awarded for their efforts and be happy in the end.
I do not know if I will be a part of the National Team that will compete in the upcoming Euro finals. I would very much like to, but this is something only Fernando Santos can decide. It’s true that I would love to be a part of the National Team.”
