Shortly before the team’s first training for the new season, Leonardo Jardim made his first comments as the clubs’ new head coach, while at OLYMPIACOS’s Training Centre in Rendis.
-What are your thoughts this very moment, minutes before the team’s first pre-season practice?
“I am very happy to be starting off the season with OLYMPIACOS, a very ambitious team. We will try to accomplish all our goals, which are none other than winning the Championship and the Hellenic Cup once again as well as to make a good campaign in the Champions League.”
-Up to now, OLYMPIACOS has added to the team some young Greeks. What do you think of the club’s transfers so far?
“The most important thing, at the moment, is to see all of the players we already have, during the first part of the pre-season preparation. Only then will we be able to say what else we might need and whether or not we have to make any additions to our roster.”
-Having already seen a little of your new team, what do you think about the team’s goals? What is it that you want to accomplish this season with Olympiacos?
“During our first few training sessions here in Rendis, we dedicate our time to get to know the facilities, learn about the team’s organisation and how things work here, in our training centre. It is very important for me to find what I need in order to work well with my new team, way before the beginning of the pre-season preparation.
As I have already mentioned before, my goals with OLYMPIACOS haven’t changed: we must celebrate the Championship and the Cup and do well in the Champions League. By doing well in the Champions League, I mean to get through the group stage and take it from there.”
-Are you going to decide upon your players solely during the frienldies in Austria or will you make up your mind after seeing them play in Portugal as well?
“When I talk about the preparation’s “first stage”, I refer to the two friendly matches that will take place in Austria as well as those three games that we will play in Portugal. These games are what’s going to help me come to know my players, see our roster in detail and after that, we shall decide on how to further improve it.”
