Last week, three Olympiacos players, in particular Ibagaza, Fuster and Megyeri –accompanied by Olympiacos FC’s Head of Marketing and Digital Media, Mrs Verouska Georganti, left for New York.
This trip’s purpose was to visit our Olympiacos Fan Club in New York and promote our club’s participation in the renowned International Champions Cup to be held this summer across N. America! Olympiacos will face Milan in New York on 24/07, Liverpool in Chicago on 27/07 and Manchester City in Minneapolis on 02/08. It is worth mentioning that, although Megyeri has been to New York before, this was Fuster and Ibagaza’s first time there!
During their stay in New York, our players spoke to many Greek, as well as Spanish, media and invited the fans to attend the ICC matches. In particular, both Spanish-speaking players gave live interviews to major radio stations UNIVISION AMERICA, WADA and AMOR RADIO.
Throughout their trip, no matter what area of the city they would find themselves at, our side’s fans expressed their love and admiration, which particularly impressed and touched the red-and-white stars!
The first scheduled visit for our delegation was that of Wednesday at the New York Fan Club, where our players expressed their joy for being there and spoke to Greek media attending the event, whereas in the end, surrounded by the attending fans, they signed autographs, gave away t-shirts and had their phot taken with everyone!
On Thursday evening, Megyeri, Fuster and Ibagaza lived an unprecedented experience and watched a hockey match in the Madison Square Garden; actually, it was the NHL Eastern Conference final between New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens!
On Friday, they had the opportunity to taste more of the love and excitement felt by Greeks living in the US, since they were the New York Fan Club’s guests of honor in the Club’s annual celebration. People, early enough, had overwhelmingly filled the venue at Bayside and burst into cheers and applause once the players made their appearance. The latter thanked the people for their presence, had their photo taken with young and not-so-young friends of Olympiacos and gladly signed numerous autographs.
Next stop for our trip was at the stadium of the New York Mets, one of the most historic baseball teams in America. The Olympiacos delegation was invited in the Citi Field by the Mets to watch their match against Arizona Diamondbacks. It is worth mentioning that Citi Field is the pitch where Olympiacos will play its opening ICC match in summer against the Italian outfit of Milan. The Mets gave a warm welcome to our players, who spoke to the Media covering the event, attended the team’s warm-up and met some of their great stars, namely Daniel Murphy, Chris Young and Booby Abreu; our players took some pictures and discussed with them both about football and baseball.
During the match, Fuster, Megyeri and Ibagaza was shown live at the Citi Field main matrix and the players, under the sound of fans’ cheering and applause, demonstrated their skill and promoted our side’s participation in the ICC. It is noteworthy that the New York Mets made a special comment via their social media about the red-and-white stars attending their match in the Citi Field!
