Words by Olympiacos coach José Luis Mendilibar, following the 1–2 away Cup win against Asteras Aktor, in his press conference:
I didn’t like the game we played at all—at all. I believe we did nothing well, nothing productive. One could say we were a little good in the first half, but in the second half we did nothing. It was one of those matches where you can take the lead and start doing something good, but then things can get complicated.
We saw you during the match showing some intensity toward your players and voicing complaints. Was that because of the quick 0–2 lead, or were the players perhaps thinking ahead to what’s next?
I don’t think that players, during the match itself, are thinking about what comes next. Maybe they think in general about the next game, but not during the game. Overall, we didn’t go in with the mentality we needed—the mentality to do something good and to win. The result might have been positive, but instead of just thinking that we won, we need to sit down and reflect on what we didn’t do in this match, so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes going forward.
