In a match where Olympiacos started well and competed on equal terms for much of the game, the sending-off of Hezze in the 57th minute — with the score still at 2–1 — proved decisive for the Greek champions. Reduced to ten men, the Red-and-whites ultimately fell 6–1 in Barcelona in MD3 of the League Phase.
Barcelona’s two first-half goals were scored by Fermín López in 7’ and 39’. Olympiacos came close just 17 seconds into the game, when Podence’s shot from outside the box was tipped away for a corner by Szczęsny. The Legend pulled one back in the 54th minute through an El Kaabi penalty, but three minutes later Hezze was sent off with a second yellow card — a moment that changed the course of the game.
Yamal made it 3–1 from the spot in the 68th minute, Rashford added a fourth in the 74th, Fermín López scored again in 76’ to make it 5–1, and Rashford struck once more in the 79’ to complete the 6–1 scoreline.
