Olympiacos coach José Luis Mendilibar spoke at the post-match press conference following his team’s 3–1 away victory over Kifisia:
It was clear that the team was disappointed on Tuesday night after the PSV match. How easy or difficult was it for the players to show the level of focus we saw today against Kifisia?
It’s never easy, but this is a completely different competition. We had to move past it and prepare properly. We could see the disappointment that night, but I wasn’t disappointed myself because we actually played a good game — just as we did today against Kifisia. We only conceded one real chance apart from their goal, we won, and that makes us happy.
A comment on Martins’ recent performances?
It’s something that happens — a player looks good when he works very hard, and we keep asking more from him. But we don’t want to tell him too much or change him, because he’s a player we really like. He helps us a lot in attack and, even if it’s not always obvious, he also contributes significantly in defense.
And a word about Nascimento’s performance?
He earned his place through training and the hard work he’s done. We talk to him all the time, we want him to improve certain things, and I’m sure he will because he’s a smart player. That’s why he’s getting minutes — because he’s shown us that he can put into practice what we work on in training, and he helps the team a lot.
