Olympiacos was defeated 2–0 by PAOK at the “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium in the Greek Cup quarter-finals, with José Luis Mendilibar stressing in his post-match press conference that his team must respond going forward.
In detail, the experienced coach said:
Olympiacos were caught off guard and failed to deliver. What went wrong, and can this elimination trigger a positive reaction for the rest of the season?
We hope so, and we certainly have to be better from now on, because we were not good at all in this match. It wasn’t just the two early goals we conceded – throughout the game PAOK were the better side. They threatened us early on and could have done so again later; that’s not the point. The fact is that we didn’t create chances to score. It was not a good performance from us. What matters now is to respond, as you said, and to fight for a win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen so that we keep our hopes of progressing in Europe, while also continuing to compete for the league title. These are the two objectives we have left.
