Despite creating chances and delivering a solid performance — especially in the first half — Olympiacos were unable to take a positive result from the opening play-off match, eventually losing 0–2. The “Red-and-whites” arguably deserved more based on their display but could not secure a favorable score ahead of the return leg.
For the German side, both goals were scored by Patrik Schick in the 60th and 62nd minutes.
