Two new figures, already familiar with Olympiacos supporters and the Greek sports fans, Christian Karembeu and Pierre Issa, have been presented Wednseday afternoon by Olympiacos FC. As made known on Tuesday evening, Mr. Karembeu was appointed as Strategic Advisor to the Administration and Mr. Issa as the Club’s Sports Director.
Both new administrative officers were on the panel together with FC’s CEO Ioannis Vrentzos and Vice President Savvas Theodoridis, while our Club’s Press Officer, Kostas Karapapas, took on moderating the Press Conference.
After welcoming the media in Olympiacos FC’s HQs at Alexandras Sq. and reiterating the roles undertaken by Messrs. Karembeu and Issa, Mr.Karapapas gave the floor to Mr. Vrentzos for an opening comment. In particular, he said:
“it is with great pleasure that we announce and also present Olympiacos FC collaboration with Messrs Karembeu and Issa. Both are significant figures in European football, bearing their own history, who are expected to enhance Olympiacos and provide additional prestige to Greek Football as a whole.
With respect to Christian, no introduction is necessary. He has steadily been an ambassador for Olympiacos abroad, both during his three-year presence as our side’s players and the years following that. He has been a firm friend of the club and not long ago did we decide formalize this relationship by appointing him as Strategic Advisor to the Administration over the entire scope of its operation; both in terms of scouting and organizing our football team. It goes without saying that his fame and connections will further cement Olympiacos image in international football.
With respect to Pierre, he is an individual with long experience in 2 major leagues, the ones of France and England, with significant European caps. He has also performed in a European final and played in a World Cup under his national team. Moreover, it is very important that, due to his former capacity, he is very well aware of Greek football. So, Pierre will be our side’s Sports Director. He will be responsible of daily operations of our football department in its entirety and act as liaison amongst players, head coach and administrations, and he will cooperate with Mr. Lorenzo and our head coach for implementing our side’s transfer policy”.
Then, Christian Karembeu took the floor, who stressed:
“For me, it is a great joy to return back to Olympiacos extended family and Greece, since I feel here like home. I want to seize the opportunity and congratulate Olympiacos President for all successes attained until today. I want to warmly thank him for this opportunity. Things are sometimes simple, sometimes complicated; I am here to help Olympiacos by means of experience. We are all a team. I and Pierre will work together, so we will with everyone in the club. We will be together, as a single person, and, as said many times, our heart and soul will be with Olympiacos. This is a major project ahead and we will all work for that. I am proud of being here”.
Mr. Issa’s comments followed right after. He said:
“Good morning everyone. I agree with Christian. I am proud of becoming a member of Olympiacos family, that is one of Europe’s major clubs and the top Greek side. Working with Christian will also be good, because we will be able to combine our past experiences to the benefit of the club and the future. This is a great change for me; there is plenty of work to do and we will give our outmost to do the best for this club.
A few days ago, we met with the coach and discussed several issues/. We will do that again very soon and get down to work in order to enter the proper pathway that will help us attain the best for Olympiacos”.
