The U20 squad of Olympiacos F.C. took on Arsenal’s respective team in the frame of the 2012/2013 NextGen Series MD 2, on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at the “G. Karaiskakis” stadium. The home team made a very good performance and beat their opponents by 2-0.
In the first half, Olympiacos created several goalscoring opportunities, starting early in the match; on 3 minutes, Likogiannis took a free kick from the right side but Cook made the save. On 30 minutes, Siopis took a nice shot but Cook saved again.
In the second half Arsenal missed out on a great chance when on 54 minutes Yennaris attempted to score but Choutesiotis deflected. Olympiacos’ efforts after the 65’ paid off with a wonderful goal on 82 minutes when Lyras made a cross from the left side, Ioannidis found the ball and took the shot in motion, Cook deflected his shot but Soukias was there, saw the opportunity and scored the opener.
One minute later, Olympiacos almost netted a second goal with a shot from Pasalidis which passed only a few inches away from the goalpost.
Up to the final whistle, the home team had control of the game and it was in the extra time when Leandro took a free kick and doubled his team’s lead (2-0), sealing the victory.
