What went wrong and brought up this result?
What is really bad is the disappointing result, because we had high hopes. This result is undue and too hard a punishment for our players who have made a great effort. We were unsuccessful in both boxes and in this tournament, you ended up paying for it. If someone is told the result without having watched the match, one might think that it was a one-way match – but that was not the case. One of our opponent’s best players was De Gea. I do not know if this explains why the match ended in 3-0, but it’s the truth.
In your yesterday’s Press Conference, you said that your players are not afraid. In particular in the opening moments, they gave the impr4ssion that they were afraid of the match. Do you agree with that or no?
No, I do not agree. We certainly made mistakes, but not because of fear or precautions. It is due to the fact that mistakes were made as a result of luck of motion. We started the match resolved to play hard, to set foot on both boxes, but although our stamina was great and our transition, we were unsuccessful when finishing-up our chances. This is a scene-changer in football. Also, I believe that our players gave everything they got to the match. But is football this is not enough. We played against an opponent of high level.
Tonight, you suffered a painful defeat; but if you look back to all matches played and all efforts committed, what is the taste this year’s Champions League leaves you with?
I feel bad and disappointed, because when I entered the lock rooms, and saw my players, who have made a huge effort but to no good result, that was a painful feeling. Unfortunately, there is no room for happy thoughts since we lost following a huge effort.
if you could turn back time, would you have changed a thing?
I do not know. Maybe I’d like to change our missing the target in goal-scoring efforts. But, by no means, will I not evade responsibility, because I am truly proud of my players and the effort they made. Tonight they gave everything. Yesterday, I told you about how I have planed the match; yet tonight we applied the plan with relative success. It wasn’t that sometimes we managed to keep the ball and score. We displayed an offensive-minded match, we opened up and retained ball possession. We had many good moments during the match, but luck was not on our side. When success evades at a result, that means that something went wrong”.
