Corberan: “We’re staying open to the good times, there are no words for Marcelo”

The Spanish coach of Olympiacos, Carlos Corberan, spoke following the 3–1 victory over Ionikos.

Olympiacos beat Ionikos with a 3–1 victory in “G. Karaiskakis” for the 3rd round of the Super League championship. The coach of the “red-and-whites”, Carlos Corberan, was satisfied with the team’s performance and victory, as shown by his statements at the post-match press conference.

The press conference of Carlos Corberan in detail:

Besides the three points of victory, what is it that you’ll be taking from this match?
Indeed, we’ll be holding on to some good moments and considering others that need improvement. Physically, we’re fine. There were also moments in the match when we didn’t live up to who we are supposed to be and accepted counterattacks, and we have to fix that.

What needs to change in order for Olympiacos to leave France with a positive result, considering that they’re playing against a more demanding opponent?
When there are two games a week, a lot of our time has to be devoted to rehabilitation, and that’s the first thing to do. Our players need to rest. The second part is the tactic approach, in order to be as competitive as possible. We will face a demanding opponent, requiring more effort on our part.

How hard is it for a coach to build a team in the middle of the season? A comment on Marcelo’s transfer?
The market is still open, however, the team has made most of the intended transfers and most of the players have integrated. This allows me to concentrate on the preparation of the games which are a lot until the September break. There are no words for the kind of player Marcelo is – for what he has accomplished with Real Madrid. But what he achieved with Real has nothing to do with what his role is in Olympiacos. In football the past serves only as experience; what matters is the present and the future.

We’ve seen Biel. We’d like you to talk to us about Bowler’s status and when Vrsaljko is coming back.
Biel was in very good shape, considering that he transferred from a team that played in European competitions. Bowler is a player who has done comprehensive preparation and comes from a team that played in the EFL Championship, a demanding championship. Right now, it’s important to have players in good shape. Vrsaljko is expected to join the rest of the team on Tuesday or Wednesday. Naturally, he will need an activation period before he can be integrated into the team and be competitive.
