Olympiacos secured a 0-1 win in Nea Filadelfeia, extending their lead over second-placed AEK to five points. In the post-match press conference, head coach José Luis Mendilibar emphasized that there are still many games left before the season concludes.
In detail, below follow words from the experienced coach:
You won’t say that the league is over, but do you feel the gap between Olympiacos and the other title contenders has widened, considering even the opposing coach had to adjust his tactics to face you?
The truth is that nothing is over yet because there are still many games to play. We have one more match in the regular season, which we must win, and then several matches among the top four teams. We will face AEK two more times, and it won’t be easy. Things went well for us today, but we saw a tactical shift from AEK compared to Wednesday’s match. Regarding that decision, I can say that Mr. Almeida had to make an adjustment after Wednesday’s result. AEK didn’t win, but it was a much tougher game for us this time. The opponent’s coach changed their formation, which brought AEK closer to a positive result. His decision worked well for them. Coaches always do their best to help their teams, and we did the same, which led to our victory.
Olympiacos is now unbeaten in 26 matches and completed the regular-season derbies without a loss. Does this provide a psychological advantage heading into the playoffs? Also, do you have any injury updates?
Pirola suffered a rib injury and will undergo tests to determine its severity. García has some discomfort in the back of his leg and will also undergo tests to see if it’s a muscle strain or just a minor pull. We do have an advantage, and it has been a good week for us with a strong run of results. However, we have many games ahead and want to maintain our momentum while extending our unbeaten streak even further.
