Despite taking the lead in the Netherlands against NEC Nijmegen in the return leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie, following a 0-0 draw at the “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium, Olympiacos were unable to secure a place in the competition’s Playoffs after a 2-1 defeat. The “red-and-whites” will now compete in the League Phase of the UEFA Europa League.
Olympiacos played for 40 minutes with ten men following Fortounis’ straight red card in the 80th minute of the match.
The team from Piraeus took the lead in the 46th minute through El Kaabi, but Linssen equalised to make it 1-1 in the 70th minute. The final 2-1 scoreline was decided in extra time, with Mor scoring in the 95th minute.
