Leonardo Jardim opted for his standard Olympiacos tactics, yet changed some of players to start the game. Carroll was the goalkeeper. At the defensive line, Torosidis was the right winger, while Cholevas was the left one; Siovas with Papazoglou were the two central defenders. Fejsa and Greco were playing in central midfield in front of the defense, with holding midfielder Machado ahead of them. Abdoun and Fuster played as the left and right winger respectively while Kostas Mitroglou was the team’s striker. Both wingers would change sides during the match.
In the first half, Olympiacos did not want to let home-playing AEK take control of the match. Until the 15’, the encounter developed with no significant chances since both sides were trying to adjust themselves on the pitch .
In 22 minutes, Machado passed the ball to Torosidis at the right, who turned it right into the 6-yard box for incoming Mitroglou. Yago fouled Mitroglou by shirt-pull and tackling from behind, throwing him to the ground before the latter could meet the ball. The referee sent AEK’s defender off with a direct red card. Djamel Abdoun converted the penalty kick and opened the score for Olympiacos in the 23’.
Second half kicked off with both sides keeping their first-half lineups. In the 57’, Olympiacos took a two-goal lead thanks to Mitroglou scoring, but put no breaks on and it was Fuster to make it 0-3 in 85′! Three minutes later, Mitroglou made the counter-attack run and netted his second of the night for the final 0-4. So, our side reached 28 points and remained top of the Championship table!
