On Wednesday night, our Olympiacos faced Belgium’s Anderlecht in Constant Vanden Stock Stadium. For MD 2 of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage, our side posted a 0-3 win coupled with a great display on the pitch!
Roberto was the goalkeeper, with Maniatis, Bong, Siovas and Manolas in defense. N’Dinga and Samaris were selected for the midfield. Weiss and Olaitan took on the wings, whereas Saviola had a free role behind our sole striker, Kostas Mitroglou.
The match kicked off with ball possession split between the sides in a balanced way. In the opening minutes, Olympiacos tried to become more aggressive trying to prevail near the box by means of set pieces. Anderlecht then took the upper hand midfield-wise after the 10’ and became relatively threatening.
In 16ʼ, our side stormed in attack. Saviola dribbles beautifully Kouyate, steps in the box and threads it to Kostas Mitroglou, who, despite Nuytinck’s effort, poked it from close range over Kaminski, giving Olympiacos the lead by 1-0!
Anderlecht tried to return in the match with no delay and put on more pressure. In fact, it was in 24′ that they had the chance for the equalizing goal, but Roberto saved Mitrovic’s penalty kick.
The second half started with Olympiacos setting the foundations for the side’s first win in this year’s campaign! In 56′, N’Dinga makes a marvelous headed pass to Mitroglou, who connects smoothly to the ball and shots with his left foot to net the second goal, 2-0!
The final 3-0 was courtesy of unstoppable Kostas Mitroglou in 72′. In particular, Fuster takes the ball and bursts forward from the right. He feeds Mitroglou, who controls the ball, brings it to his right foot and unleashes a well-prepared shot that lands deep in the opponent’s net; his superb hat-trick sealed our side’s 3-0 victory!
